A+ Modernizing our schools

In a clear victory for New York City schoolchildren, Assemblywoman Ann-Maragaret Carrozza helped negotiate the Legislature’s budget that provides $2.6 billion to renovate and expand school buildings, providing safe, modern classrooms for our children. New York City schools will receive $1.8 billion to help modernize our schools.

The Legislature’s agreement also ensures that nearly $10 billion more will be invested in New York City schools to move our children’s classes out of the hallways and closets and into rooms where students can actually learn. Assemblywoman Carrozza’s efforts will move construction forward at our local schools.

A+ Supporting higher education

As a graduate of SUNY, Ann knows the importance of providing the right funding for our public colleges. That’s why she fought for a budget that adds $239 million in state support to SUNY, CUNY and community colleges and blocks the governor’s tuition hikes of $500 for SUNY and $300 for CUNY. The Legislature’s bipartisan budget also increases Bundy Aid to private colleges by $2.9 million and increases support for vital higher education programs like EOP, HEOP, SEEK, College Discovery, and Library Partnerships by 10 percent.

A+ Program upgrades for Queens colleges

The legislative budget provides $14 million in capital funding for Queens colleges, including:

  • $6 million for phase II of science upgrades at Queens College
  • $5 million for the Louis Armstrong Center at Queens College
  • $3 million for upgrades to the Queensborough Community College Science Department
