This past year, during our legislative session, my colleagues and I worked together to secure significant victories for our communities:

Supporting students and teachers

• $11.8 billion for NYC public schools, $193 million for non-public schools, and $8.6 billion for Foundation Aid to ensure our schools have the resources they need
• $88 million to increase the maximum TAP award and rejected proposed tuition increases at SUNY and CUNY public colleges
• Continued a multi-year investment in universal prekindergarten to help our youngest learners start on the right path

Providing relief for families and small businesses

• $2.6 billion in combined federal and state aid to help tenants & landlords impacted by COVID-19*
• $800 million for the COVID-19 Pandemic Small Business Recovery Grant Program for businesses and for-profit arts organizations*
• $540 million in mortgage assistance to help people stay in their homes
• Restored $69.4 million in local assistance for childcare programs, family and children’s programs and youth programs, added $50.9 million in grants and programming and allocated $2.4 million in federal funding for various childcare priorities
• Made the Nourish NY Program permanent to provide healthy food to families in need
• Continued the phase-in of middle-class tax cuts to keep more money in New Yorkers’ pockets

Investing in infrastructure

• $500 million for clean water infrastructure
• $1 million to study broadband availability and reliability statewide

Fighting Hate

The Covid-19 Epidemic saw a devastating up-tick in hate crimes. Racism and antisemitism are products of mis-education and ignorance. To that end, this year, Assemblywoman Weinstein worked with her colleagues in the Assembly to craft legislation to further protect the victims of these horrible acts, secure $1,500,000 for the establishment of the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Mobile Museum of Tolerance and joined colleagues in promoting the #stopasianhate movement during an event held in conjunction with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.

Nieuw Amersfort Association

Assemblywoman Weinstein joined Steve Yamin, President of the Nieuw Amersfort Community Association to honor and celebrate the work of Mr. Samuel Barrett, Corresponding Secretary of the organization since 1997. The Assemblywoman presented Mr. Barrett with a New York State Assembly Proclamation thanking him for his dedication to the community.

National Night Out creates positive relationships between NYPD Officers and the communities they’re sworn to protect. Assemblywoman Weinstein joined Councilwoman Farah Louis and Bob Kaplan, Director of The JCRC’s Center for Community Leadership at the 67th Precinct’s event, and Joseph Auerbach, Crew Chief for the Flatlands Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and officers of the Marine Park Community Association, at the 63rd Precinct’s event in Marine Park.

The Consumer Credit Fairness Act (CCFA) is finally a reality, having passed both the Assembly and Senate. The CCFA:

• brings an unprecedented level of protection for consumers by reducing the statute of limitations on credit card debt claims from six years to three, ensures a debt doesn’t languish and paperwork is still readily available.

• Requires debt collectors to provide an affidavit from the original creditor as well as proof of the history and ownership of the debt.

• Allows defendants who feel as if they were improperly notified of the suit to claim improper serving of notice as a defense and seek dismissal of the case.

Nostrand Houses Toy Giveaway

The Assemblywoman joined NYCHA Nostrand Tenant Association President, Barbara McFadden, to distribute Easter Baskets to community children and seniors during one of their many grab-n-go events at the housing complex.

Be Proud Honors Covid Service

At a recent event hosted by the Be Proud Foundation, individuals and organizations were recognized for going above and beyond during the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic. During the event the Assemblywoman joined Be Proud Founder, Raisa Chernina, and members in honoring her former Chief of Staff, Frieda Menos, for her work as Director of Constituent Services for Congressman

On the First Tuesday of the Month 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

You can apply for the Senior Half-Fare MetroCard if you are 65+ or have a Qualifying Disability (photo identification is required)

Only MetroCard holders get a FREE transfer between buses and trains
