Middletown children deserve more than the governor is offering

The governor announced a $2 billion surplus and $634 million in additional education funding for schools statewide.

Meanwhile, his proposed budget cuts nearly $1.8 million from Middletown schools

The majority of that money - $1.2 million - was to be used to support full-day kindergarten

Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther is committed to making sure Middletown students get their fair share. To ensure a quality education for our children, she:

  • Is fighting for a fair, on-time state budget that provides more state aid to lower local property taxes

  • Fought to bring Orange County schools $6.3 million more in 2005 than the previous year

  • Supports a fair funding formula based on student enrollment, need and district wealth

  • Authored legislation to explore moving school funding from property taxes to state income taxes because the current system is unfair to homeowners and students (A.9746)
