Assemblywoman
Aileen Gunther Budget update for Middletown families |
Dear Friends: Working with my colleagues in the Assembly and with Governor Spitzer, we passed a budget that helps reform our health care system, gives local schools the support to move forward and addresses the high cost of property taxes. Foremost, through compromise, a sense of responsibility and recognition that reforming health care and education must safeguard our well being, the Assembly delivered funding for our health priorities and ensures our youngsters can compete in today’s market. As a registered nurse, I understand the concern many expressed about cuts that could harm medical care. Instead, we have a budget that streamlines Medicaid enrollment, insures the state’s 400,000 uninsured children and gives our hospitals and nursing homes the necessary funding for patient needs. In addition, our schools get their fair share of state aid, including more money for Orange County Community College and for universal pre-K programs. The budget also provides property tax relief, targeting middle-class families and seniors. The new Middle Class STAR program offers rebates over the next three years. I will continue to make these issues top priorities and do all I can to ensure our families get the support they need to provide for their loved ones. Please write or call my office with any of your concerns.
