Nothing is more important than our families

Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli works to improve our community and make Central New York a better place to live.

Providing resources for our children

Assemblyman Magnarelli knows how important local programs are to the growth and development of our youth. That is why he fought to provide funds for youth programs, including:

  • $6,600 for Girls Inc. of Central New York for equipment to teach young women photography and video arts

  • $5,000 to the Valley Youth Football and Cheer Association for athletic equipment

  • $5,000 to the Cultural Resource Council for Youtheatre productions

Protecting our children from dangerous sexual predators

New York’s most dangerous sexual predators will be kept off the streets even after they finish their prison terms under a tough, new law sponsored by Assemblyman Magnarelli (Ch. 7 of 2007).

Providing services for our families

Assemblyman Magnarelli was able to provide funding for services that will help people with developmental disabilities and their family members, including:

  • $50,000 in Community Capital Assistance Program funding for ENABLE (United Cerebral Palsy Chapter) for a therapy pool condensation unit

  • $5,000 for the Onondaga ARC to purchase equipment for the autistic children’s program

  • $5,000 for the Mental Health Association to establish a child mental health database for Onondaga County

Magnarelli also secured the following:

  • $50,000 for Solvay’s Public Library reconstruction project

  • $25,000 for the Vera House for battered women

  • $17,000 for Child Care Solutions for career ladder training

  • $10,000 for ElderCare Solutions for home health aides in Central New York

Continuing the fight against Shaken Baby Syndrome

Between one-quarter and one-third of Shaken Baby Syndrome victims die. More than half who survive suffer from severe injuries and impairments. Education about SBS can significantly reduce the number of infants who fall victim to this wholly preventable act. Assemblyman Magnarelli has worked hard to reduce the incidence of SBS, drafting bills that:

  • require hospitals to offer new parents educational videos on the dangers of SBS (Ch. 219 of 2004)

  • include SBS prevention in the high school parenting-skills curriculum (Ch. 177 of 2006), and

  • provide people incarcerated in state correctional facilities with Shaken Baby Syndrome educational videos (Ch. 98 of 2007)

Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli “I work hard to provide funding for services and programs our families need. Improving our quality of life and keeping our families safe are my top priorities, and I’ll continue to fight for you and your family.”
