Statement From Speaker Silver on Raising New York's Minimum Wage

Raising New York's minimum wage continues to be a top priority for the Assembly Majority. A recent report from the Fiscal Policy Institute and the National Employment Law Project reinforces the Assembly Majority's position that raising New York's minimum wage is a smart way to boost consumer spending and generate thousands of jobs for our hard working families.

Today's "day of action" organized by a broad-based coalition of advocates is a clear demonstration that the public sentiment is also on our side. We cannot sit idly by and allow New York's working families to continue to struggle to make ends meet due to stagnant wages.

I firmly believe and will continue to advocate for an increase that eliminates future wage erosion and ensures that low wage workers will be able to maintain purchasing power well into the future.
