                         LEGISLATIVE ACTION                                    
                                                                               
The Legislature rejects the Executive proposal to merge the Department         
of Correctional Services (DOCS) into a new Department of Justice               
(DOJ).  The Legislature adds $402,500 for State Operations and                 
$802,500 in Aid to Localities spending.                                        
                                                                               
Legislative Reductions                                                         
                                                                               
The Legislature rejects the Executive`s proposal to construct a 750            
cell maximum secure facility and reduces the Capital Projects Fund by          
$180,000,000 to reflect this action.                                           
                                                                               
Article VII                                                                    
                                                                               
Legislation is enacted to provide payment in the amount of $55,000 to          
the survivors of certain employees of the State of New York who died           
as a result of the incidents which occurred during the inmate uprising         
at the Attica Correctional Facility in September of 1971.
