Budget Highlights

The 32-member Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC) is federally funded through the Federal Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, originally passed in 1975 and was recently re-authorized. Federal law requires that at least 60 percent of the Council’s membership must be persons with developmental disabilities or members of their families. The Council’s staff of 18, administers and monitors contracts with not-for-profit agencies to enhance service and service delivery to persons with developmental disabilities to improve their quality of life. The Council’s staff ensures that federal funds are used to augment services and not to supplant other support.

This agency is included in the Health and Mental Hygiene appropriation bill.

State Operations

The Executive recommends an appropriation of $4,560,000, an increase of $10,000 or 0.2 percent. The appropriation reflects a continuation of federal funding at prior year levels with the addition of a $10,000 Enterprise Fund appropriation that would allow DDPC to collect fees to cover the cost of printing, duplication and postage for the various media products developed by the Council.
