BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS
(Executive Budget: pp. 291-294 )
The State Commission of Correction (SCOC) is responsible for
regulating and overseeing State and local correctional facilities. The
Commission monitors 71 State correctional facilities, 63 county jails,
17 New York City correctional facilities and 267 locally operated
police department detention facilities throughout the State. As a
result of legislation enacted in 1996, the Commission also has
oversight of secure detention facilities operated by the Office of
Children and Family Services.
State Operations
The Executive recommends an All Funds State Operations appropriation
of $2,586,000, an increase of $69,900. This increase reflects costs
associated with salary adjustments. The Executive also recommends the
elimination of one position through attrition.
