NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

SUBJECT:
Revised Draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement governing natural gas drilling.

PURPOSE:
To solicit public input on the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's revised Draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement governing natural gas drilling.

On September 30, 2009, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) released a Draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement (DSGEIS) regarding well permit issuance for horizontal drilling and high-volume hydraulic fracturing to develop the Marcellus shale and other low-permeability gas reserves. DEC received thousands of comments and on September 7, 2011, released a revised DSGEIS. The purpose of this hearing is to solicit public input on the revised DSGEIS.

Persons wishing to present pertinent testimony to the Committee at the above hearing should complete and return the enclosed reply form as soon as possible. It is important that the reply form be fully completed and returned so that persons may be notified in the event of emergency postponement or cancellation. Oral testimony will be limited to ten minutes' duration. Ten copies of any prepared testimony should be submitted at the hearing registration desk. The Committee would appreciate advance receipt of prepared statements.
