The Bowmans moved to Stony Brook in 1971 when Malcolm took up an assistant professorship in oceanography at the Marine Science Research Center at Stony Brook University. He is now a Distinguished Service Professor whose enthusiasm for the marine world has inspired a generation of students.
Waveney and Malcolm have a long tradition of service to our community. Waveney is an active member of the Long Island Symphonic Association and a member of the Church Bell Choir of Setauket Presbyterian Church, while Malcolm is a founder of the Stony Brook Environmental Conservancy and serves on the board of the Friends of Flax Pond.
The Bowmans have four children and three grandchildren. Pictured above from left to right: Assemblyman Englebright, Waveney and Malcolm Bowman.
