McDonough Announces Summer Reading Challenge

Students encouraged to continue reading during summer

Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) recently launched his 12th Annual Summer Reading Challenge. As part of the challenge, students pledged to read 15 minutes or more each day for at least 40 days during the months of July and August.

“Reading opens the door to adventure, knowledge and academic success,” said McDonough. “Summer is the perfect time for kids to grab a good book and dig into reading. Studies show that children who continue to read during the summer perform better in school the next fall. Each year, we’ve had an overwhelming response from our students, and I expect we will again this year.”

Students interested in participating in the challenge should contact my District Office at 404 Bedford Avenue, Bellmore, NY, 11710, by calling (516) 409-2070 or via e-mail at mcdonoughd@assembly.state.ny.us. Students who successfully complete the challenge will receive a New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate. The challenge is sponsored by Assemblyman McDonough and the New York State Library.
