McDonough: Victory For Teachers, Assembly Passes Bill Prohibiting Confidentiality Agreements

"I have heard of numerous complaints from parents and educators regarding the confidentiality agreements which prohibited teachers from commenting on state tests. Today, we took a step toward fixing this problem. Assembly bill 7402, which I co-sponsored, just passed the New York State Assembly. This bill will prohibit the Department of Education from requiring teachers, principals or superintendents to sign certain portions of confidentiality agreements. We need our educators to be able to express their views regarding the tests our students are taking and make sure they are being tested at the right level. This is a great first step, but there is more that needs to be done."
