Assemblyman Montesano Statement On Emergency Spending Bill

May 11, 2010

“Forty: That is the number of days that New York state has been without a budget,” said Assemblyman Michael A. Montesano (R,I,C-Glen Head). “Within this quasi-biblical span, Albany’s career politicians have passed six separate emergency spending bills, millions of dollars to defer voting on a constitutionally-mandated state budget for another week.

“The taxpayers of Long Island are sick of this irresponsible behavior and I agree with them. Yesterday I voted to end the wasteful cycle of emergency spending and restore fiscal sanity to the Empire State, and I do not believe that punishing state workers for the Assembly Majority’s political gamesmanship, which is included in the emergency spending measures, is the responsible course of action. My colleagues and I should be voting up or down on a state budget; the taxpayers of New York did nothing to deserve 40 more days in the financial wilderness.”
