Alzheimer’s Foundation of America hosting free, confidential memory screenings
October 19, 2011
Assemblyman Michael A. Montesano (R,I,C-Glen Head) is highlighting November as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month by announcing the next Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s (AFA) National Memory Screening Day on November 15. On this day, qualified health-care professionals at sites from coast to coast will offer free, confidential memory screenings and information about Alzheimer’s disease and local resources. “Alzheimer’s disease affects over five million Americans,” said Montesano. “I applaud AFA for advocating for services such as a toll-free hot line, and counseling as well as providing educational materials, a free caregiver magazine, and professional training for those who are working with people suffering from Alzheimer’s. I encourage constituents from throughout my district to go to the memory screening, especially if they are over the age of 65.” Screenings will be held at the New York Institute of Technology, 267 Carlton Avenue, Central Islip from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and at Gold Coast Public Library, 50 Railroad Avenue, Glen Head from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information on AFA’s activities this November, people may call 1-866-AFA-8484 or visit the National Memory Screening Web site.
