Montesano’s Co-Sponsored Legislation Banning Animal Fighting Equipment Passes Assembly
June 7, 2012
Legislation co-sponsored by Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,I,C – Glen Head) to ban the sale, ownership and possession of materials used in illegal animal fighting passed the Assembly yesterday. While animal fighting has been illegal for some time, many individuals still own the paraphernalia used in this heinous activity. By banning these items outright, it will be more difficult than ever for animals to be victims.
“Animal fighting is deplorable and access to the items needed to participate in it has no place in our state,” said Montesano. “I’m pleased that my colleagues took action and passed my co-sponsored legislation banning the sale, ownership and possession of these items. This action will save the lives of many animals and continue to make our communities a better place to live, work and raise a family.”
