Another Budget Extender, Another Bad Deal for New York

Statement by Assemblyman Tom McKevitt (R,C,I – East Meadow)
June 14, 2010

The state legislature just passed the 11th budget extender of the year. That means that the New York state budget is officially 11 weeks late. While the New York City leaders continue playing political games, the taxpayers of this state are the ones who suffer.

As the Ranking Minority Member of the Mental Health Committee, I am extremely disappointed with the content of this week’s extender bill. The governor has chosen to cut funds to vital mental health programs rather than smoking out the waste, fraud and abuse that steal money from New York’s coffers.

I encourage the governor and my colleagues in the Legislature to work together before any more crucial programs fall prey to the state government’s inability to manage its finances.
