Ethics Reform Strong But Lacking Amendment

A legislative statement from Assemblyman Tom McKevitt (R,C,I- East Meadow)
June 13, 2011

The Public Integrity Reform Act of 2011 is an important step toward establishing strong and important reforms to how business is conducted in Albany. Government must truly be accountable to taxpayers throughout the state, and for this reason I supported it. However, I am disappointed that current public officials are not included in the pension-forfeiture requirements contained within this bill. No one presently serving in the state Legislature should be above the law. I will push for a constitutional amendment to ensure that no one profits from betraying the public’s trust.
