Reilich Notes How to Stop Unwanted Mail Solicitations
November 9, 2004

Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece) reminded constituents today there are ways to stop unwanted solicitations, advertisements and other literature from filling their mailboxes.

According to Reilich, anyone wanting his or her name removed from mailing lists may write to the Direct Marketing Association, P.O. Box 9009, Farmingdale, NY 11735-9008. Citizens can also:

  • Contact the companies that send unwanted mail and have their names removed from their mailing lists.
  • Call or write their magazine, book club and other subscription companies to request their names not be given or sold to other businesses that solicit via the mail.

"This is a great way to reduce mailings that you don’t want," Reilich said. "By reducing these unwanted mailings, you are cutting down on waste and helping preserve our natural resources."

Information about recycling unwanted junk mail is available by contacting the Division of Solid Waste at 50 W. Main St., Rochester, NY 14614-1218, or by calling (585) 760-7553.
