Reilich Announces FASNY’s First-Ever Winter Games in Lake Placid
January 10, 2005

Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece) today announced that The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) will hold its first-ever Winter Games from Feb. 19-21 in scenic Lake Placid. The games are expected to become an annual event.

According to Reilich, registration will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, followed by a reception at the Lake Placid Firehouse. The lighting of the FASNY Olympic Torch will conclude the opening day celebration.

Contestants will participate in events such as toboggan races, hockey shootouts, snowshoe races, speed skating relays on the famed Olympic oval and a biathlon shoot.

"This is an excellent opportunity for our local volunteers to show off their athletic ability to the rest of New York," Reilich said. "I encourage all those who want a fun-filled weekend to attend or participate in the FASNY Winter Games."

An awards presentation will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20 at the Lake Placid Firehouse.

Reilich noted that visitors to the 2005 FASNY Winter Games will have opportunities to ride a bobsled on the half-mile bobsled track used in the 1980 Olympic Winter Games.

For more information or to download the FASNY 2005 Winter Games flier, visit the FASNY Web site at www.fasny.com, or call toll free (800) 232-7692.
