Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece) is calling for an immediate suspension of New York’s 4 percent state sales tax on motor fuel through the end of the fiscal year. He is circulating a petition throughout his district calling for suspension of the tax.
Reilich’s response to the need for lower fuel prices comes as the cost of gasoline in the region soared to over $3 per gallon, thus stifling the end-of-summer tourism industry and hurting trucking businesses, while gouging the wallets of New York consumers.
"I cannot stress enough how important it is to lower fuel prices immediately. Our residents and businesses have become strapped, with some literally trapped in their homes, due to rapidly rising prices," Reilich noted.
Copies of Reilich’s petition will be available at gas stations locally and through Assemblyman Reilich’s district office. To request more information or a copy of the petition, call (585) 225-4190 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Reilich concluded, "I strongly encourage all those who are affected by or feel strongly about the rising price of motor fuel to sign this petition and to pass it on to friends, family and neighbors."
