Reilich, Assembly Minority Unveil Budget Countdown Clock
March 26, 2007

Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece) stands in front of the budget countdown clock that he and his Assembly Republican colleagues unveiled today to express the urgency of passing a third consecutive on-time budget before the April 1 deadline. Many believe the impasse between lawmakers and Governor Eliot Spitzer will result in a late state budget.
“It is our duty, to the taxpayers of this state, to pass an on-time budget,” said Reilich. “Open negotiations between legislative leaders and Governor Eliot Spitzer must continue and I am prepared to stay in Albany until the job gets done.
After two consecutive on-time budgets, and mandate for reform expressed by the people in November, it would be unconscionable for this body to be late with this year’s budget. I am calling on my colleagues in both houses and the governor to put aside partisan politics and return to the negotiating table so that we may pass an on-time budget, as the state constitution requires us to do.”
