Governor’s Speech “A Step” On The Long Road
A Legislative statement by Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece)
July 30, 2008

“I commend the Governor for publicly acknowledging that the government is in a very poor fiscal position. With the deficit increasing by the billions and no current plan in place to correct the growing debt, New York has become a victim of an economic crisis. Just as our families have had to find ways to ‘cut back’ by tightening their belts, it is about time that the government does the same.

My Minority colleagues and I have been urging Speaker Silver to call the Assembly back to session to deal with the unfinished business, such as skyrocketing property taxes and the soaring cost of home heating. I commend the governor for taking this important first step of calling the Legislature back into session, so we can work on the issues that are affecting the quality of life for all of us in Monroe County and across the state.”
