“I have consistently said that raising taxes and fees is the worst thing that can be done as we face these economic times. Placing a heavier burden on hard-working families and businesses, who are already being forced to tighten their belts, is the last move government should be making.

“It is about time that Governor Paterson started listening to the voices of his constituents throughout the state. He has moved to eliminate eight of the most devastating of his proposed 137 new taxes and fees. This action will reduce the total of the proposed tax burden by $1.3 billion for all New Yorkers. This is a small step in the right direction and I urge the Governor to continue to work toward ways to alleviate the ever-growing tax burdens being placed on New Yorkers.”
