Governor’s Executive Order First Step In Property Tax Relief
A legislative statement by Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece)
April 27, 2009

“Since coming to office, I have made it one of my top priorities to create lasting and comprehensive property tax relief in New York State. Monroe County is currently ranked one of the highest in the nation for property taxes. In these tough economic times, the last thing that families should have to worry about is escalating property taxes. I applaud the governor for heeding the voices of New Yorkers and issuing Executive Order No. 17; this is a first step down the road of real property tax relief.

“This executive order will begin to create mandate relief and expose the cost of unfunded mandates on taxpayers. Mandates are the legislation and regulations the state places on local governments and municipalities without also providing funding to pay for them, this translates into higher property taxes for hardworking New Yorkers.

“This is a first step toward relieving these burdensome mandates and creating property tax relief for homeowners across the state. Much more needs to be done and I look forward to continuing down a path that will lead to real relief for all New Yorkers.”
