Reilich Votes On Legislation Allowing For Consolidation Of Local Governments
A legislative statement by Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I–Greece)
June 2, 2009

“On Monday, I voted for legislation that will allow local governments and municipalities to consolidate services by an elector initiative. This legislation will not force consolidation, but will make it easier for communities if they choose to do so. I support this legislation because of its potential cost savings to local taxpayers and the minimization of government.

“While this bill will not affect school districts, special purpose districts and city districts, there has been much concern expressed over its possible effects on fire districts. Because community fire departments provide such invaluable service to our communities, we need to prevent the safety and protection of our communities from being compromised by consolidating these fire districts. To that purpose, I am co-sponsoring legislation that will ensure that fire districts and fire departments are not affected by the consolidation legislation.”
