Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece) today announced that he will be conducting the annual Summer Reading Challenge. The reading challenge will take place throughout the months of July and August. Students who read at least 40 days during those months will receive a New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate.
“The Summer Reading Challenge is a rewarding experience that provides a valuable way for children and their parents or guardians to take time from their summer schedules to relax and read together, especially during the lazy summer days,” stated Reilich.
The Summer Reading Challenge is open to all children of middle and elementary school ages. Private, public and home-schooled children are encouraged to participate.
“Studies have found that children who continue reading throughout the months of summer break, do better at school in the fall,” said Reilich. “This is a great opportunity to keep your children busy doing something educational and beneficial to them during the summer.”
The reading challenge is sponsored by Assemblyman Bill Reilich in cooperation with the New York State Library’s Statewide Summer Reading Program.
