Reilich: Remember Safety When Observing Independence Day
A legislative statement by Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece)
July 2, 2009

Independence Day is one of the greatest holidays our nation celebrates. We remember our country’s fight for freedom, the men and women who fought for independence those many years ago, and celebrate the blessings of living in the greatest country in the world. It is a time for family and friends to come together and celebrate who we are as a nation while enjoying good food, great fireworks and local parades.

“As you celebrate this Independence weekend, please don’t forget about your safety and the safety of your family. We all know that fireworks are illegal in New York except when conducted by those licensed to do so. However, each and every year, as we celebrate this great day in our nation’s history, so many families are faced with the tragedy of an injured or lost loved one due to illegal or mishandled fireworks. Be aware of your surroundings, even in public areas; your safety is the highest priority. Let us enjoy a safe and joyous birthday of our nation. I wish all the families of our community a happy Independence Day.”
