Reilich: Sex Offender E-Mail Alert Law Signed

This summer, I voted for legislation that would allow parents to sign up for a program that would send them e-mail alerts regarding Level 2 and 3 sex offenders in their neighborhoods. While the sex offender registry has always been readily available to parents, keeping up with new entries to the database and the large amount of data that it contains can be difficult to sift through. This new program would give parents an easier way to protect their children.

I am proud to announce that on Thursday, the governor signed this legislation into law. The e-mail alerts will be offered free of charge to any resident who chooses to sign up with the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).
