Reilich Co-Sponsors Legislation Cutting All State Funds To ACORN
A legislative statement by Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece)
September 21, 2009

With the recent allegations regarding how ACORN has been conducting business in terms of encouraging tax fraud and other illegal practices, and its unfortunate role in the misuse of government funding, I will be co-sponsoring legislation at the state level eliminating all funding to ACORN and any affiliate until further notice. This legislation follows legislation passed by Congress last week eliminating all federal funding to the organization.

During this difficult economic period, legislative leaders have chosen to force our citizens to pay for unfair tax increases across the board, rather than implement state spending cuts and government reforms that have always been among my top priorities. It is inappropriate that money from hardworking taxpayers across our state is being used to encourage illegal and fraudulent activities. This said, I call on my colleagues in the state Legislature, as well as the governor, to stand beside me in endorsing this legislation to cut funding to ACORN and bring an end to the blatant misuse of taxpayer dollars.
