Dear Editor,
The acts of violence against law enforcement have increased in recent months, shaking those who call this community home. These individuals put their lives on the line each and every day, and while this is the field of work they chose, they deserve the respect of those whom they fight to protect.
In January of 2009, Officer Anthony DiPonzio was shot upon departing a crime scene in which he arrived to assist his fellow officers and the people of his community. Now, another act of violence has taken place right here in my home district. Deputy Jonathon Strong received a non-life-threatening wound when he was shot in the ankle after responding to a call in the quiet town of Brockport.
It is time we recognize that these acts are increasing and do something about it. As the Assemblyman of the 134th district, I will use this seat to fight for tougher laws against those who commit acts of violence against law enforcement in our community. These individuals must be punished to the fullest extent of the law and we must make sure that happens.
Sincerely,
Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece)
Assembly Member – 134th District
