Assemblyman Mark Johns (R,C-Webster) and Assemblyman Eric Stevenson this week were joined by colleagues in the state Legislature to discuss the ongoing persecution of Falun Dafa in China.
Falun Dafa, also called Falun Gong, is an advanced self-cultivation practice of the Buddha school. The discipline is assimilation to the highest qualities of the universe as the foundation of its principle. Falun Dafa and other works have been translated into 38 languages and distributed to more than 70 nations, with the most active communities in the United States and Canada.
“Great injustices like this make us better appreciate the freedoms that our forefathers fought for and that we, in the State Legislature, work to preserve every day,” said Assemblyman Mark Johns. “My colleagues and I are introducing this resolution to commemorate this special day in the State of New York and call on the Chinese government to put an end to this unnecessary persecution of those who practice Falun Dafa.”
In 1999, the Communist Party of China initiated a nationwide crackdown on Falun Dafa, declaring it a “heretical organization” and banned access to websites that mentioned Falun Gong. Practitioners in China are subject to a wide range of human rights abuses and hundreds of thousands have been imprisoned, abused and tortured for the practice.
April 25 is a symbolic date because it commemorates the beginning of the Chinese persecution against Falun Dafa. It was officially banned in China on July 22, 1999.
