Hawley Announces Grants For The Arts

Steve Hawley (R,I,C,-Batavia) today announced a series of grants totaling more than $120,000 for arts programs in the 139th Assembly District that will go to the Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council.

The money comes as part of the New York State Council on the Arts’ (NYSCA) $24,200,215 in local assistance grants that provide opportunities for the public to participate in arts events and community celebrations throughout the state.

The Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council grant money is being divided into three categories with $33,600 going to the Regional and County Folk Arts Program, $35,700 for general operating support and an additional $60,375 for localized grants to be distributed by the group.

NYSCA officials also say children benefit from its state funding through Empire State Partnership grants that support collaborations among schools and cultural organizations.

“The arts are a very important part of community identity and our children’s education,” said Hawley. “This funding will benefit the advancement of arts programs in our region while providing new forums for local artists to display their wonderful talents.”
