Hawley Grants Restored

Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R, I, C – Batavia) was pleased to learn of Governor Spitzer’s decision to restore 2006-07 member item funding that the governor had cut last fall. Since then, the funding for local projects has been in limbo until the governor decided this month to reverse his decision. The funding for the projects is now in the process of being administered by the Department of Budget.

“I am pleased that the governor has cleared up any misunderstanding about what this funding does. This money goes to local projects that are worthwhile and very deserving of the state aid. I am glad to learn that the governor has done the right thing and I am even more pleased for the organizations in our community who can finally breathe a sigh of relief,” stated Hawley.

Specifically, two projects sponsored by Hawley were earmarked to lose funding. These projects included $15,000 for the Village of Holley in order to complete an engineering study of the Holley school, as well as $1,000 for the Orleans Chamber of Commerce to support the Albion Business Association’s downtown beautification project for the Village of Albion. The funding for both projects has now been restored.
