Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak (D-Cheektowaga) called the announcement of a $500,000 housing redevelopment grant an exciting opportunity for the Town of Cheektowaga. The grant, awarded by the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation, will be used to rehabilitate 20 to 30 homes in the town’s oldest neighborhood.
“When houses fall into disrepair, they drive down property values, erode the tax base, hinder commercial development and provide cover for criminal activity,” Gabryszak said. “This grant – the largest of this type that Cheektowaga has received – will help an entire neighborhood get back on its feet.”
“This half million dollars is great for the community and will go a long way in helping to stabilize the northwest part of town,” said Councilman Charlie Markel.
“As a lifelong resident of Cheektowaga, it saddens me to see parts of town falling into disrepair,” Gabryszak said. “This money will help ensure that our town continues to be a great place to live.”
