Assemblyman Gabryszak: Villages Will Have Easier Transition to New Voting Machines
February 14, 2011

“Today, I voted in favor of legislation that allows villages, who independently administer their own elections, the optional and temporary use of lever voting machines through December 31, 2012 (A.3093-B). Electronic voting machines are currently required by law; however, many villages don’t have access to these new voting machines.

“It’s only fair that if school districts are able to use the mechanical lever machines through the end of 2012, villages should be able to as well. By doing this, it will make for an easier transition for villages from lever machines to HAVA-compliant or optical voting machines.

“The right to vote is a right, and I want residents of the 143rd Assembly District to remain confident in the voting process. This legislation is important for the continued efficiency in local elections until localities can properly switch over to electronic voting machines.”
