“It’s crucial that we have mechanisms in state law ensuring a fair election process. Yesterday, I voted in favor of legislation increasing the period between the governor’s announcement of a special election and the date of that election by a minimum of 40 days.
“Servicemen and women, as well as Americans living abroad, generally cast their vote for special elections by absentee ballot. However, current law does not allow enough time for ballots to be received and mailed back, unintentionally complicating the process.
“The brave New Yorkers who serve in the military deserve to have their voices heard. This legislation will help ensure that every ballot is counted in special elections.”
