Assemblymember Gabryszak Pleased With Expansion of Strangulation Law
December 30, 2011
“In 2010, I sponsored a law creating new crimes of strangulation in the first and second degree and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation. This year, a new law was passed that takes it one step further, allowing victims of misdemeanor strangulation offenses to seek compensation and assistance from the State Office of Victim Services (Ch. 534 of 2011). This new law strengthens our efforts to help the thousands of victims of this horrible act by granting them the means to seek compensation and assistance they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to acquire. I will continue working in the Assembly to pass laws that make our community safer. ”
