Assemblymember Gabryszak Supports Agreement for Tracking Dangerous Prescription Drugs
June 6, 2012

“In an effort to combat what has become an overwhelming epidemic of doctor shopping and black-market dealing of highly addictive pain killers, an agreement has been reached to create an electronic ‘real-time’ database for physicians and pharmacists to check before dispensing certain drugs.

“Our community especially needs this oversight, having been identified for having some of the most abused opioids and in light of the recent string of suicides resulting from prescription drug abuse. This is a problem that will not fix itself, in fact, it will only grow more and more dangerous, and we cannot allow that to happen.

“I’ve sponsored legislation in the past to create this type of database and I’m confident that this will be a significant step toward putting an end to the prescription drug abuse that has been running rampant in WNY. We need to do everything we can to protect our families, and I look forward to working to put this system in place as soon as possible.”
