Giglio Announces Grants For Local Libraries

Assemblyman recognizes the importance of local library grants

Assemblyman Joseph M. Giglio (R,C,I-Gowanda) today announced that four local libraries in the 148th Assembly District have been awarded grants totaling about $39,000. The four libraries that will be receiving these grants are Colonial Library, Richburg, with $11,747; Essential Club Free Library, Canaseraga, with $2,800; Gowanda Free Library, with $11,737; and King Memorial Library, Machias, with $12,863.

“Many of our libraries in New York State are housed in buildings that are decades old. It is important that we provide resources to maintain the libraries in our communities,” said Giglio. “I am proud that several community libraries in my district are able to take advantage of this funding for their construction and renovation needs.”

In total, New York State will award $14 million in grants to be used to offer greater enhancements and accessibility for libraries. These renovations include the construction of additions to existing buildings and rehabilitation of existing space, including roof replacement; purchase and installation of alternative energy resources and new HVAC systems; doors, windows, and lighting systems; electrical upgrades; and construction of new or replacement of old walkways and parking lots, among other things.

“Libraries are an incredibly important resource for our residents of all ages, offering critical early literacy services and providing job training resources for adults,” said Giglio. “These services, among others, make libraries a vital element for the continued success of New York’s public education system. I want to encourage members of the community to take a trip to their local library to get a glimpse of what they offer.”
