Curran Honors Local Veteran From Baldwin

On Sunday, November 19, Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st A.D.) hosted his annual Veterans Hall of Honor event. This event is meant to honor local veterans for their service to our country.

Among those honored was John Sandrowicz of Baldwin. John enlisted in the USMC in August 1970. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in August 1973. He married Kathleen Gallagher on July 6, 1974, and is the proud father of 2 sons, John and Matthew, and a daughter, Erin. He is also the proud father-in-law of Michael D’Alessandro and Patty Donnelly Sandrowicz, and “Jaja” to Tommaso, Matteo, Olivia and Juliana. He retired from the Town of Hempstead after 40 years with the Department of Sanitation, acquiring the title of Superintendent of Code Enforcement. He has been a member of the Daniel Bradley Knights of Columbus and is a past Grand Knight, served on the School Board of St. Christopher’s Grammar School in Baldwin, was Man of the Year for the Baldwin Republican Club in 1989, a past President of the Baldwin Kiwanis Club and held various offices including past Commander of the Baldwin American Legion. Currently, he serves as Junior Vice Commandant of the Sunrise Detachment of the Marine Corps League.

“It is my great honor to recognize all these amazing and inspiring veterans. They have given up so much to protect the freedoms we enjoy in the U.S. To honor them like this is the least I can do as a thankful citizen. We owe veterans a debt we can never repay and must always remember freedom is never free,” said Curran.
