Statement From Assemblyman Brian Curran
Property tax cap vote refused by Assembly Majority
April 11, 2011
Today, I voted in support of a property tax cap amendment to the Assembly Majority’s rent control bill, because I believe that New Yorkers need real relief from some of the highest property taxes in the nation. Unfortunately, the Assembly Majority does not think that the people of New York deserve a property tax cap. They voted to kill the amendment, denying New Yorkers a reprieve from the relentless taxes which have plagued the state for years. In January, the Senate passed a 2 percent property tax cap with full support from Governor Cuomo. Despite today’s regrettable setback, I will continue my fight to make New York an affordable place to live and push for a property tax cap and mandate relief at every opportunity.
