The 24th Annual National Night Out (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 7th, 2007. It has been brought to my attention that two communities in my district, Glen Cove and New Cassel, will be participating in National Night Out.
NNO has been proven to be an effective, inexpensive, and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. In addition, the benefits our communities will derive from this very important event will certainly extend beyond this one night. National Night Out Against Crime will involve over 11,000 communities. In all, 35 million people are expected to participate in this event.
This important event is designed to:
- Heighten awareness for crime and drug prevention
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
- Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
Glen Cove will be hosting a block party from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. There will be entertainment in Village Square, refreshments, child identification kits, tours of the Glen Cove Police Station, tours of Glen Cove Fire Department and EMS vehicles, and displays by Glen Cove’s Office of Emergency Management and Harbor Patrol.
New Cassel will begin their festivities with a parade that starts at 5:30PM at the Salvation Army on Prospect Avenue in Westbury. The program will continue at the Martin “Bunky” Reid Park at 6:15PM.
I hope to see you all out at this worthwhile event.
