Assemblyman Lavine Honors “Youth of the Year” Winner

Glen Cove – Assemblyman Charles D. Lavine, Mayor Ralph Suozzi and Senator Carl Marcellino joined together on Friday, April 18 at the Glen Cove Boys and Girls Club to recognize and congratulate Boys and Girls Club of America “Youth of the Year” Award state winner Naquasia Pinchback. Naquasia, a Glen Cove resident and high school senior is an active member and part time employee of the club. In school she has achieved academic excellence; she exudes community spirit and has created an innovative system to help students who need extra help with mathematics. The Boys and Girls Club of America “Youth of the Year” Award is the highest honor a member can receive. “It makes me proud that this young lady from my hometown is being recognized statewide.” Lavine said. “She serves as a great role model for her peers and younger students too.” Mayor Suozzi said, “We are proud to recognize Naquasia for her achievements and her participation in the Glen Cove community. She represents a positive role model for students and her peers at the Boys and Girls Club and she is a great example of someone who has come through the public school system and achieved great things both inside and outside of her school environment. We are proud to call her a Glen Cover.” Along with winning this honorable title, Naquasia will receive a $1000 scholarship from the Reader’s Digest Foundation and goes on this summer to compete against other young people in the Northeast Region. Naquasia will attend St. John’s University on a full scholarship in the fall.
