Lavine Sponsors Legislation to Protect Legitimate Contractor Bids

June 14, 2010
Assemblyman Lavine has joined Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice and Senator Brian X. Foley to announce legislation he has sponsored in the State Assembly (A.11274) and Sen. Foley has sponsored in the State Senate (S.8064) that will close a longstanding loophole in New York State’s labor law. Under current law, contractors who have been federally debarred are nonetheless eligible to bid on, and possibly be awarded, construction contracts from the State of New York.

Assemblyman Lavine said, “This important legislation that I am sponsoring in the Assembly protects legitimate, hardworking contractors from potentially losing out on state public works projects by amending the state labor law that allows dishonest contractors who have been debarred from federal projects to bid. It is important for the protection of New York's citizens that the state's bidding is fair, honest and balanced.”
