Friend: Keep Gov’t Operating and Assist People and Small Businesses Impacted By Covid-19 in Budget

Statement from Assemblyman Christopher S. Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats)

“As the budget deadline looms, I am concerned by the hints from the governor that controversial and unnecessary policy may find its way into the state budget. Our state is facing one of its most pressing challenges, the magnitude of which we still do not know fully. The expectation of the crest of the number of individuals who may contract COVID-19 is expected to be two to three weeks out from where we are today, that’s more time with our communities at a standstill in a collective effort to flatten the curve.

“With so much still unknown, our Legislature must pass a narrowly-focused budget that ensures government is operational, especially as we work to fight the coronavirus outbreak. Our biggest priority is getting help for the sick and providing support to small businesses, so our economy can rebound as quickly as possible when this is all over.”
