Legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-19th District) and Assemblywoman Michele Titus to address aircraft noise pollution passed the Assembly Corporations, Authorities and Commissions Committee today and will be reported to the Assembly Ways and Means Committee before it reaches the Assembly floor for further action. This bill, which was passed by the state Senate two weeks ago, would require the Port Authority to conduct an aircraft noise impact study. For Ra, this study is crucial toward addressing the increased air traffic over Long Island and the detrimental impact to residents’ quality of life.

“In recent years, there has been a massive increase in air traffic over Long Island, which has caused a rise in noise pollution for our residents,” said Ra. “By having the Port Authority conduct a study on aircraft noise, we can elevate the discussion of this issue and ensure noise concerns are given proper weight when determining the use of certain runways and flight paths. I thank Senators Hannon and Martins for their leadership in passing this through the Senate and will continue to work with Assemblywoman Titus to bring this bill to the Assembly floor.”
