Urgent Need for Donors: Buttenschon to Host Community Blood Drive this Friday

Marcy, New York – Assemblywoman Buttenschon (D-Utica) is hosting a community blood drive with the American Red Cross at the Marcy Town Hall, 8801 Paul Becker Road, Marcy, NY on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm. Buttenschon, along with family and friends, will be donating blood, and is asking for those who can to donate as well.

“Donating blood is such a powerful way to give back,” said Buttenschon. “Simply stated: donating saves lives. It could be the life of a stranger or someone you love. I urge our community members to consider making a donation. Let’s make sure our hospitals have a supply of blood ready and waiting before an emergency happens.”

All blood types are needed, especially types O negative, A negative and B negative, according to the American Red Cross. In the U.S. blood is needed every two seconds, so it is necessary that the perishable product must be replenished constantly.

"The summer months are among the most challenging times of the year for blood and platelet donations since regular donors often delay giving due to vacations and summer activities," said Mallory Brown, Executive Director of the Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley. "Eligible donors can feel good knowing that by donating through the Red Cross they may be helping patients not only in their community, but also family and friends across the nation."

The American Red Cross is giving those who donate May 1-June 10 a $5 Amazon Gift Card via email. Learn more at rcblood.org/together
