Assemblywoman Buttenschon: Thanks American Red Cross for Blood Drive Success

Marcy, NY Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon (D-Utica/Rome) hosted a blood drive with the American Red Cross on Friday May 31, 2019. Donors of all blood types came out to donate and in turn twenty one units of blood were collected.

“I thank the town of Marcy for allowing the event to be hosted at Marcy Town Hall. I’m impressed with how many volunteers showed up to donate their blood,” Assemblywoman Buttenschon said. “By doing so they are saving premature babies, organ transplant recipients, trauma victims, and patients with cancer or other diseases.”

Blood drives are happening all over the area. The next blood drive will be in Whitesboro, NY at the Dunham Public Library. Potential donors can also go to the American Red Cross Blood Donation Center in New Hartford, NY.

Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative. According to the Red Cross, type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used to treat trauma patients.
