Simpson on the 2023-24 Executive Budget: More of the Same for NY

A Statement by Assemblyman Matt Simpson (R,C-Horicon) on Gov. Hochul’s Executive Budget Proposal

“New York is at a financial tipping point– the abrupt rise in our cost of living, the flooding of out-migration and with the highest taxes in the country, our state needs legislators who understand the urgency to create real changes. Gov. Hochul proposed yet another bloated state budget of well over $220 billion, and although I am pleased to see the proper funding toward education aid and environmental conservation, New York is not going to suddenly head in the right direction overnight with false promises and extensive state spending. Her budget proposal lacked unemployment insurance fund relief for employers saddled with paying off mandated unemployment during the COVID-19 pandemic, which would help take the burden off small businesses that are barely holding on.”
